Onsite Installation and  Training Visit

In some cases, a site visit is helpful to set up and calibrate imaging instrumentation purchased from BIOQUANT and train on new projects. This service is available for an additional fee, normally included as part of a comprehensive proposal.

Training in the use of the software is usually best provided individually, on demand, using a remote connection via the Internet. Individualized remote training is part of our comprehensive technical services plan. We encourage you to schedule remote training at your convenience!

Preparation for Site Visit

The training is the most successful if all necessary equipment is in the laboratory and working before the trainer arrives. Please use the following checklist to make sure your system is ready for the day of training. If you need technical assistance, please feel free to contact technical support at 800-221-0549 Ext 11 or support@bioquant.com.

For Computer and Camera Systems Not Purchased from BIOQUANT

  1. Operating System Preparation
    • Install Windows 7 32-bit or 64-bit Professional or Enterprise edition or Windows 10 Professional 64-bit.
    • Install the BIOQUANT BQV Board in the computer. The drivers for this card are on the BIOQUANT installation disk. Refer the included document: Getting Started: Installation, "Installing the BQV Board."
    • Once the BQV board has been installed, follow the directions in Getting Started: “Configuring the Ideal Desktop Screen Resolution”
  2. For Systems Connected to a Camera
    • Attach the camera to the microscope. Confirm that the camera mounts correctly to the photoport of the microscope with the camera coupler.
    • Follow the directions in Getting Started: Installation, “Install Drivers for the QImaging Digital Camera.”
  3. Install the BIOQUANT software, sample datasets and images, and manuals.
  4. Confirm Proper Camera Operation
    • Acquire an image from the camera. See "Using the QImaging Camera" in the “Image Region, Calibration, and Imaging Region” section of the BIOQUANT OSTEO or BIOQUANT Life Science manual.
    • Confirm that the image from the camera does not vignette with any objectives or condensers. Pay particular attention to the low powered objectives.
  5. Install Microsoft Excel. BIOQUANT can dynamically link to a data table in Microsoft Excel.
    • Note: The "Click to Run" version of Microsoft Excel that is dynamically installed over the internet is not supported by BIOQUANT software.
  6. Confirm that the computer has Internet access. This is required for later technical support service.

For Computers and Camera Systems Purchased from BIOQUANT

Onsite Visit Overview

Definition of the Day of Installation and Configuration

The day of installation and training can either consist of one six hour day, or a consecutive afternoon and morning. A  six hour day of training typically runs from 9:00AM to 4:00PM with a one hour break for lunch. A split day of training typically runs from 2:00PM to 5:00PM on day 1 and 9:00AM to noon on day 2. The Designated User must attend the entire training. One additional user may also attend the training. Past experience suggests that trainings are most productive if the number of separate projects to be discussed is three or fewer.

Suggested Training Agenda

This agenda is designed to provide both a general awareness of each function of the software as well as to develop concrete data collection procedures which will allow data collection to begin as soon as possible. Naturally, it is only a general guideline and will be adapted to suit the needs and projects of the laboratory.

Projects
Indicate the three projects to be covered on the day of training. For each project provide a project description. Past experience suggests that trainings are most productive if the number of separate projects to be discussed is three or fewer. You may want to spend more than the suggested time on a project. Training on 3D modeling, bone morphometry, and stereology, for example, often requires two time slots. We can make a recommendation about the time required to cover a particular project after we receive the Project Description forms. If only one person is being trained, it is often helpful to make one project a thorough walk through of the software menu item by menu item.
Enter the name of the first project to be covered.
Please provide a summary of the project. This will assist the trainer in preparing an informative, efficient training. Feel free to email sample image files of your specimens to support@bioquant.com. They will be forwarded to the proper trainer.
Enter the name of the second project to be covered.
